Absolute CD3, CD4, CD8 Count, Whole Blood

What it is:
A flow cytometry test that measures T-lymphocyte subsets:

• CD3: Total T cells

• CD4: Helper T cells

• CD8: Cytotoxic T cells

Uses

• Monitor immune function (especially in HIV/AIDS)

• Diagnose and evaluate immunodeficiency disorders

• Assess immune recovery after transplantation or therapy

Symptoms That May Lead to the Test

• Recurrent or frequent infections

• HIV infection monitoring

• Autoimmune conditions

• Suspected immune suppression

Abnormal Results

• Low CD4: HIV/AIDS, immune suppression

• High CD8: Viral infections, autoimmune diseases

• Abnormal CD4/CD8 ratio: Indicates immune imbalance

Risks

• Minimal, limited to risks of a blood draw (pain, bruising, or dizziness).
